Research Interfaces
Forty Episodes is an ongoing public digital-research project studying how territorial licensing, platform access, subtitles, and dubbing determine whether Chinese television can travel.
The interface as research
An English-language reference organized by title and country makes distribution conditions visible: where episodes can be watched, on what terms, and in which languages. Database and interface design become ways of presenting knowledge about cultural transmission.

A published manual method
A route connects one title, one platform, and one country. The published protocol requires a person to open it and record the verification date.
- Establish the territory. Check through a connection in the listed country and confirm its location.
- Test the platform first. Open a title known to be carried there before interpreting an unsuccessful search. If that test fails, discard the reading.
- Verify episode access. Episodes must play or be visibly posted behind a named plan. Opening-episode samplers do not qualify as routes.
- Read language and price conditions together. Check subtitle and dub lists in the same sitting; public-page-only language readings are minimums. Count free episodes separately by country.
- Separate leads from evidence. Aggregator listings require independent checks on the platform in that country.
- Preserve time and change. Keep verification dates and stale-record notices. Since 19 September 2026, route changes are logged with dates, previous and new values, and evidence.

Inspect the source record ↗From records to research questions
The Industry page’s worked cases, dated 7 October 2026, distinguish a served title (Pursuit of Jade), a possible language-access gap (Hidden Love in Brazil), and an upcoming title whose availability still needs checking (Chasing Dreams). These are dated analyses rather than a substitute for each route’s own check date.
The research distinguishes demand from availability. Finding no streaming option does not establish that licensing rights are available; the project does not have rights contracts or deal prices.

Publishing organization: Forty Episodes is published by Ribcage Pictures; Joyce is its founder.
Research and interface evidence: the published protocol, dated title-country records, worked analyses, and country-specific interface show the project’s research and design practice. They bring platform studies, translation and accessibility research, and territorial distribution analysis into a public interface.
